Narooma fishing report

Narooma fishing report:

Outside: The kingfish were firing on the weekend with good fish between 5 and 10 kilos. The fishing slowed this week when the currents changed. Most of the bigger fish were caught on livies, with squid getting smaller fish. Yakkas can be caught off the golf course and Yakka Bay at the island. There have also been good snapper landed up to 2 kilos with other reef dwellers.

Yellowfin have also shown up in numbers with fish around the 15-kilo mark. Some lucky anglers had their fill and drove away with the yellowfin still attacking their lures. Stripies have been caught in close while the yellowfin were between the first and second drop off. There were also reports of big albacore up to 17 kilos at the Tuross Canyons.

Rock and beach: Plenty of salmon on the beaches and also spinning lures off the rocks. Drummer are about and take prawn, bread or cunji, while blackfish are available on weed or cabbage.

Estuary: It’s a little bit quieter as temps have dropped. But its been red hot over the last month and there are still lots of bream, tailor and thumping trevally. Lure fishers must slow their retrieve while bait fishers would be well-served with burley and to fish the tides. Change your tactics a little bit.

Dash at the Ocean Hut

(Dash has a fishing tale of his own when last weekend his young fella lost his $600 Daiwa Sol rod and reel over the side at Fosters Bay. So this weekend the Bowater family headed out to the spot for a salvage mission. After anchoring, his better half spotted the wayward rod in about 12 foot of water. So Dash donned his wetsuit and recovered the rod, that after a service and new braid will be back in action.)

TUG OF WAR: Tess Poyner caught this 60-cm kingfish using the same $20 rod and reel that her big sister caught last month’s big flathead on, even the same 1.0 hook and 8lb line. Tess was determined not to give in, eventually winning the tug of war.
