Ladies determined but lose to Moruya

O’Brien’s Narooma All Age Ladies

The weather saw the All Age Ladies soccer team warming up in the rain with Hoots and Ben huddling under an umbrella together concerned about getting their hair (or perhaps lack of in relation to one of them) wet.

The rain stopped as soon as we were finished warming up and we headed on to the field.

For the first 20 minutes the game was even with no goals by either team and our forwards making numerous advances on the Moruya goals.

Karen started up front and pushed the ball up to Kate who had numerous encounters with the Moruya goalie in her attempts at getting the ball in the net (with no success re the goals).

A hand ball in the box (yes Kim, we know it’s a silly rule - the top of the arm is not really a “hand”) led to Moruya having a penalty shot.

Sherie, our goalie again this week, almost got to the well placed ball - it just bounced off the tips of her fingers and Moruya had their first goal.

Moruya then turned on their attacking game and at half time the score was 3/0.

After half time we came back on with fresh determination and the ball spent a majority of the time towards our goals.

However, a few runs by the Moruya forwards made hard work for our defenders, consisting of Bec Cooper, Aleeta, Meg and Nualla (and Kate coming in to back us up when necessary) the other Bec coming on later, and showing us some interesting arm movements (don’t really know what else to call them).

Bec Cooper seemed to spend most of her time on the ground, claiming she was going for the ball each one of those dives.

Meg and Jenna made some good advances up the wing.

Jenna, as usual, being in the thick of the action posing a constant threat to the other team’s defence - they always seemed suprised with so much fight in such a small package.

Kendall and Jess did well in the midfield and Jess (while sick with a chest infection) managed to get our goal for the game, which saw the end score as 5/1.

Janelle, Jane, Glen and Rachel did well in the midfield, getting the ball up to our goals on many occassions, but their defenders just outnumbered our players and we weren’t able to make any of them into goals.
