Unmarked car patrols high-crime areas

POLICE concerned by the number of break-ins and thefts from motor vehicles in the Bermagui and Narooma areas called in unmarked patrol car on the weekend.

Numerous cars were stopped and searched in the evening and night and several traffic infringement notices issued.

Between 2am and 3am on Sunday, the undercover officers stopped a 35-year-old female driver acting suspiciously in Bermagui determining she was driving unlicensed and also locating a small amount of cannabis. Because of her good record she was let go with a cannabis caution.

Drunk biker throws pillion

A 37-YEAR-old Narooma man was arrested on several charges at midnight on Monday after he crashed his motorbike injuring his 26-year-old female pillion passenger. He lost control on Hillcrest Drive with the passenger transported to Moruya hospital for overnight observation with lacerations .

The man was breath tested giving a reading of 0.195, subsequently charged with high-range drink driving, negligent driving, causing actual bodily harm, unlicensed rider, unregistered and uninsured vehicle.

Thieves drive off

THIEVES entered a house on Young Street, Bermagui between 1.30am and 2.30am on Wednesday, June 18 through an open window while the occupants were asleep upstairs. They stole a handbag and car keys, before going into the garage and driving off in a 2007 blue Kia Cerato.

The handbag was located a short distance away by the owner minus cash and credit cards with local and forensic police attending the house. The vehicle was located on Sunday evening in Jones Lane, Bermagui and has been preserved for forensic testing.

Lucky to be alive

A 29-YEAR-old Central Tilba man was issued with a ticket for failing to keep to the left after his motorbike crossed onto the wrong side of the road on the Princes Highway near Central Tilba.

The man was travelling south on his 650cc Yamaha road bike when failed to negotiate a left-hand turn crossing into the northbound lane and colliding with a car that attempted to take evasive action.

The man was thrown from the bike suffering a suspected broken leg and knee damage.

Bloody thief arrested

POLICE arrested a 15-year-old Wallaga youth after he injured himself breaking into the lands council office on Umburra Road. The youth called 000 and an ambulance but when police arrived he ran off.

Police caught him and determined he had a warrant for revocation of his bail conditions, so he was arrested and is now serving the remainder of his prison term for earlier offences. Investigations into the break-in continue.

Car theft attempt

A WHITE Holden Commodore station wagon parked at a Narooma club between 12.30am and 12noon on Saturday was broken into with the front side window smashed, the glove box rifled through and a door handle damaged.

Supermarket blue

AN altercation between a man and woman on Dulling Street, Dalmeny at 4.20pm on Thursday escalated to violence when the man retreated into a nearby supermarket. The 46-year-old female then allegedly punched the man in the face.

Police are investigating the assault using CCTV footage and have issued one of the parties with an apprehended violence order.

Wouldn’t go away

POLICE were called to a licensed premises in Bermagui at 11pm on Thursday and 21-year-old Beauty Point man who was barred from the establishment refused to leave. He complied with a direction to move on, but was later issued with a $550 fine for failing to leave.

Don’t leave the keys in

A 1985 BLUE Ford Econovan (QLV 434) is still missing after the owner left the keys in the ignition and it was stolen from McMillan Road between 4pm and 7am on Thursday.

Chasing down a hot-wirer

THE owner of a 1996 white Commodore utility was surprised to hear his vehicle start at 7pm on Wednesday, June 18 while parked outside his Riverside Drive home.

Upon inspection he disturbed a man, described as Aboriginal in appearance, 20-25 years old, skinny, 180cm tall and wearing a cream hoodie and dark cargo pants, giving a short chase before giving up. The front side window had been smashed and car hot-wired.

Very drunk driver

POLICE arrested a 36-year-old Bodalla man for high-range drink driving after he was stopped in his Toyota utility on the Princes Highway at 10pm on Wednesday, June 18. He returned a reading of 0.200 and was also found to be driving unlicensed.

Trailer full of tools

THE search continues for 6x4 fully enclosed Blue Village box trailer containing tools and other items that was stolen from the Bermagui wharf sometime between 5pm Sunday and 8am on Monday.

Got shades, phone

THIEVES broke into a green Mitsubishi Triton parked on Bellbrook Crescent, Bermagui opening an unlocked door and making off with a mobile phone and sunglasses. Police are monitoring calls from the stolen phone.
